PM Tagelagi honored to represent Niue in COP29

Prime Minister-Hon. Dalton Tagelagi was part of the official opening ceremony of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The event was officiated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan-Honourable Ilham Aliyev.

This year’s theme is “In solidarity for a Green World,” chosen by the host country that captures the mission of COP29.

This year’s COP is focused on the critical need for finance to support countries in drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting communities from the ever-growing impacts of climate change.

Hon. Tagelagi is honored to represent our nation at this global platform, participating in high-level discussions alongside world leaders over the coming days.

Niue stands in solidarity with the world at COP29, working to raise ambition and turn climate commitments into tangible actions that safeguard our environment, our people, and future generations.

Delegates from nearly 200 countries will gather for the United Nations annual international summit on addressing the threat of climate change from November 11th to 22nd.
