Newly built Tide gauge to support disaster preparedness

Mitiepo added it wasn’t easy over the COVID phase but finally it is in operation as this will support Niue in terms of early warning for all the severe weather and disaster preparedness and extreme weather events.

A newly-built Tide Gage Hut and a mural was unveiled at the Sir Roberts wharf recently.  

Manager of the Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific under the Bureau of Meteorology Australia-Celine Becker shares more in regards. 

Niue Met Service Director-Rossy Mitiepo said she is relieved and happy that the hut is now completed. 

Mitiepo added it wasn’t easy over the COVID phase but finally it is in operation as this will support Niue in terms of early warning for all the severe weather and disaster preparedness and extreme weather events.

She added the mural is our connection to the bridging of climate and traditional Knowledge. The mural was created by the talented Jica Vakaafi.

The Project was funded by the Climate and Oceans Support Program under the  Government of Australia and the New Zealand Government
