Tamakautoga Village Show Day a Success
The next village to host their annual show Day will be the village of Tuapa in early September.
The village of Tamakautoga hosted another successful annual village show day last Saturday, attracting hundreds of their friends, relatives and visitors to the island.
The Village Council Chairperson Hikitogia Puheke in his speech thanked and acknowledged the contributions from the people of the village including those living in Australia and New Zealand. Puheke said that he is always proud of the spirit of cooperation between the people of his village with their families living abroad.
The Assemblyman for Tamakautoga Ricky Makani spoke and acknowledge the elders of the village recalling the work they did more than 50 years ago to develop the village.
Makani spoke about the hard work without heavy machinery that is available these days, how the people used their hands to dig trenches for the water and power to reach the village and the blasting of the sea tracks to make it accessible for the fishermen of the village.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi and other dignitaries joined the celebrations at Tamakautoga including the High Commissioner of NZ, His Excellency Mark Gibb who spoke about the support by NZ and the relationship between Niue and NZ.

Australia’s High Commissioner Her Excellency Katy Stuart also acknowledged the hard work of the people to put on the show day and the contributions of the people of Tamakautoga who call Australia home.

The Minister of Social Services Hon. Sonya Talagi, in her speech used the opportunity to encourage the people to turn up to vote at the upcoming village council elections and the public referendum on the 4 constitutional amendments on Saturday 31st of August.
Minister Talagi thanked the people of Tamakautoga for a beautiful and bountiful annual show day.
