Minister attends 5th Annual Regional Fisheries Ministers Meeting

Minister for Natural Resources- Esa Mona Ainuu is in the Solomon Islands this week to chair the 5th Annual Regional Fisheries Ministers meeting and the 23rd Ministerial Forum Fisheries Committee meeting.
Minister Ainuu is accompanied by Dr. Josie Tamate who is the chair of the Western and Central Pacific Fishing Commission (WCPFC).
The ministers will engage in a series of meetings and discussions aimed at addressing key issues impacting the region’s fisheries.
In the lead-up to the meeting this week, Minister Ainuu met with Fiji’s Minister for Fisheries and Forests- Honorable Alitia Bainivalu.
According to the Fiji Government’s Facebook page, during the bilateral meeting, the two ministers discussed issues facing fisheries in the region and shared their aspirations regarding the sustainable management of the region’s shared tuna stocks.
The discussion also provided a platform for the two countries to address the need for setting zone-based limits within the region’s albacore fishery.
