Climate Change Biggest Threat to Pacific
We look at the Tuna fisheries or “overall fisheries even coastal fisheries, the climate change impacts on that and ensuring that we can work well together and mitigate those impacts and address them because our life depends on it.”
Climate Change is the biggest threat to the Pacific region.
This was revealed by the Director General of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency-Dr. Manu Tupou-Roosen during the week-long National Fisheries Summit and Strategic Development Opportunity Consultation currently underway on the island
She said our leaders have highlighted that this is the single greatest threat to our security and well being.
“We look at the Tuna fisheries or overall fisheries even at the coastal fisheries, the climate change impacts on that and ensuring that we can work well together and mitigate those impacts and address them because our life depends on it, our ocean we as 96% ocean in our Pacific home and so ensuring it last not just in our lifetime but also for our children and grandchildren“
Dr Tupou-Roosen is leading a nine member team that includes representatives from the Pacific Community (SPC) to listen and learn and see how they can provide their respective expertise and experience of how they can contribute to achieving Niue’s Vision of protecting their resources for its people.
