Successful completion of the touch tournaments for 2022
Last Saturday marked the end of the touch tournaments for 2022. The tournaments expanded over a period of four weeks beginning with the juniors mixed, open mens and womens, open mixed, and the under-21 and masters mixed grades.
The tournaments were hosted by the Niue Island Touch Association (NITA) with Lynsey Talagi being the main organiser and facilitator.
Looking at the overall tally [refer to table below], Alofi has once again dominated the touch tournaments for this year. Not far behind is Tuapa and Tama-Ava. Upcoming teams include Vaiea, Lakepa, Hakupu and Mutalau.
Despite the wet weather experienced in the past few weeks affecting the conditions of the fields, training, and preparations, the touch tournaments commenced with its program at the Niue High School fields. The Open Mens/Womens was the only tournament held at Tuatea fields in Hakupu.
The only ongoing issues were the number of referees.
The tournaments were greatly supported by Australia’s Pacific Sports Public Diplomacy Fund along with various local sponsors on the island.
Well done to all teams who participated in the 2022 touch tournaments.
