Cabinet decides flights to Niue will continue on a weekly basis with stricter conditions

There are no suspected Covid-19 Coronavirus cases or people experiencing any Covid-19 Coronavirus symptoms on Niue.   

Government is reminding the public to remain calm and only seek information from official government sources.

At Cabinet’s meeting this morning, Cabinet authorized the following:

1) The flights to Niue will continue on a weekly basis.

 2) All flights to Niue from Auckland will have the following conditions: 

a) Niue residents only are permitted on the flights to Niue with exceptions as expressly authorized by the Niue government;  

b) All incoming passengers will be required to sign a declaration before boarding the flight to Niue in Auckland and will be quarantined on arrival for 14 days under strict protocols 

c) Any passenger that does not sign the declaration will not be permitted entry into Niue.

Cabinet has directed the Niue Health Department and the National Disaster Council to have stricter self isolation and quarantine conditions and protocols.   

Those arriving on flight NZ784 on the 27th of March will not be permitted to self-isolate at home and will be taken straight to quarantine at a government approved location.  These quarantine locations will have the police and authorised persons at the entrances and monitored 24/7. No person is allowed in or out of these quarantine locations except for emergencies and for health officials only.

If you have a family member arriving on that flight, please do not go to the airport as you will not be permitted to have contact with your family member or friend.  

Those to be found in violation of these quarantine conditions will be detained and will be subject to criminal penalties up to and including imprisonment.

All persons who traveled to or arrived in Niue after 19th of March 2020 will be held in self-isolation and quarantine.   

That will include all persons who arrived on flight NZ784 on the 20th of March who have been in self isolation.   

Those to be found in violation of self-isolation conditions will be detained and transported to a government approved quarantine location and will be subject to criminal penalties up to and including imprisonment.
