Visiting family and friends missed at the Vaiea Show this year.

The Vaiea village annual show day is always a drawcard for the visiting friends and relatives (VFR) leading up to Christmas time but this year was not the best year for the village.

Normally there will be Niueans from abroad walking around the stalls buying the local coconut crabs and coconuts but this year, not a visitor in sight. It was a quiet show day for the village of Vaiea last Saturday but for those who turned up, there were still ugas and coconut crabs and plenty of cooked food to buy.

The village elder and long time member of parliament Talaititama Talaiti welcomed those who attended to their village.

The day was officially opened by Premier Dalton Tagelagi who was very impressed with the efforts of the village to their annual show.

He told the village that the government is still working on plans to do something or relocate the rubbish dump located close to the village. Premier Tagelagi says that his government is still looking at options and will continue to work with the village on the issue.

Vaiea is home to the largest population of Tuvaluans in Niue, many of whom have made Niue their home.

The next showday just before Christmas is the village of Liku.
