The workshop aims to enhance national capacities in MEA reporting, data management, and environmental impact assessment.

Talagi also highlighted one of the challenges when it comes to accessing funds for certain projects.

“One of the challenges is the amount of time it takes to negotiate funding and access funding and for the funding to arrive in Niue. We are looking at about two years to access the funding so all the projects we have negotiated previously, they are beginning to show fruition now. It’s the time it has taken and our capacity constraints.” Talagi said.

Participants include representatives from government departments, NGOs and the private sectors.

The workshop is part of SPREP’s ongoing commitment to strengthening environmental governance in Pacific Island countries.
