Telecom Niue CEO assures the Manatua cable service will be delivered ASAP despite delays

Telecom Niue CEO Brett Collier has assured that the Manatua cable service will be delivered as soon as possible and without compromising on the all-important quality that is essential.

The Manatua cable was scheduled for launch in June this year with locals looking forward to the provision of faster internet through the cable.

The Manatua cable is a 3634 km, 2 fiber pairs system connecting Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cook Islands and Tahiti and Bora Bora.
It’s expected to transform speed, capacity, resilience, and affordability.

Excavation works were carried out late last year at Makefu for the landing of the cable in December.

Today Collier says, it is critical to ensure all aspects of the project are delivered precisely as expected and with value-for-money at the forefront. 

“Extensive testing has indicated that the cable is operating well within design parameters.  The final stages of accepting the cable will not, however, be rushed by the Manatua Consortium. 

In parallel with the cable, Telecom Niue Limited is confident that all the aspects required to deliver on the expectations for the cable are coming together well through Telecom Niue and its partners.” said Collier

Costing is still to be finalized, Collier told BCN News last month.

Some of the packages for consumers out of this new Manatua service are being considered which includes reduced streaming costs and Social Media packages.

The project started some 3 years ago. Niue’s Manatua cable installation is being funded by the NZ Government to the tune of $7 million.
