Stranded tourist causes employment commotion in Niue

A Japanese tourist who is stuck here on the island after the lockdowns were imposed globally, has been granted a work permit to work in Niue. 

BCN News understands that this tourist is now working for the Education Department. The Immigration department has also confirmed to BCN News that this tourist has been granted a work permit. 

The Public Service Commission has confirmed that they are still investigating this matter as the decision to employ this visitor was made by the Education Department before the Commission was informed. 

BCN News has sought a response on this matter from the Minister for Social Services Billy Talagi who is the Minister in charge of the Education Department.
