Former Wellington Mayor to contest Niue’s General Election

Former Wellington Mayor and former New Zealand High Commissioner to Niue Mark Blumsky has confirmed he will be contesting next month’s general election.

Blumsky became eligible last year to contest the general election after gaining his Niuean Permanent Resident status after ten years on the island.   

He was the mayor of Wellington from 1995 to 2001. National MP in the NZ parliament from 2005 to 2008.  Blumsky was the NZ High Commissioner to Niue from 2010 to 2014. He married Niuean Pauline Rex in 2012. 

The Chief Electoral officer is yet to call for nominations. 

Niue’s General Election will be held on Saturday May 30th, 2020.
