Covid 19 Supplementary budget tabled in Parliament

The first item on the Order paper of the Fono Ekepule this morning was the tabling of the Government’s Covid 19 Supplementary Budget. 

The supplementary budget was tabled in the House by the Minister of Finance, Premier Sir Toke Talagi. 

The budget bill appropriates the $7 million of the Niue Governments COVID 19 Stimulus Response Package for the next three months. 

The budget appropriates the following; 

$50,000 for – repatriation for the care of those in quarantine 

$630,000 for the Health Department

$1.85 million for private sector 

$100,000 for Vulnerable citizens 

$550,000 for food security 

Matavai Ltd will received $600,000

$470,000 for Government infrastructure 

$600,000 is appropriated for the Niue Development Bank 

$1.6 million for the Government of NIue 

A separate discretionary fund of $150,000 for the Government

$50,000 for tourism and  $250,000 for tourism redeployment program. 

The Fono took over one hour to discuss the first reading of the bill with the majority of the members showing support for the supplementary bill.

The second reading of the bill was presented to the House by Minister Hon. Billy Talagi Bill and has been unanimously passed in the evening yesterday.
