17 month old Niuean boy in ICU, family visits restricted

The 17 month old boy who was medevaced to New Zealand over the weekend is still in the intensive care unit at Starship children’s hospital in Auckland.

His mother is with him at the hospital however because New Zealand is still in lock down, no one else is allowed to be with them.

The hospital has only allowed one of the patient’s aunties who is a nurse at Starship to visit him and help his mother who stays with him all day at the intensive care unit.

His father has confirmed that his baby boy is still under sedation as the doctors want to make sure that his brain injuries can heal properly. The doctors will be assessing his condition to make the decision to remove the intracranial pressure rod which monitors the swelling.
