Date of Niue’s 2020 General Elections finalized and is yet to be officially announced

The Speaker of the Fono Ekepule Hon. Togia Pihigia has confirmed that the next sitting of the house will be on Wednesday next week the 18th of March. 

Hon. Pihigia also confirmed that he has received official notice from the Premier Sir Toke Talagi that a date of the general elections is confirmed and will be announced at the meeting next week. 

In line with the requirements of the constitution, it is expected the meeting will also be informed of the date when the 16th legislative assembly will be dissolved, which at this stage is likely to be in April. 

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer Darren Tohovaka says that once the date of the general elections is officially announced, the Electoral Roll will be opened for new electors to be registered. This will take place 30 days from the date of the General elections.
