11 granted permanent residency status

Eleven people have been granted permanent residency status.

Certificate of Permanent Residency status were presented to 11 recipients at an official ceremony held at the Parliament House on Tuesday morning following approval of their applications last year.

The recipients needed to have met the requirements under Niue’s Immigration Act 2011 and is the first group to be presented PR status following the new changes.

One recipient included former NZ High Commissioner Mark Blumsky who says he is “proud to be Niuean”.

Government officials in attendance and that presented the certificates were Hon Billy Talagi and Maureen Melekitama.
