Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi at the 54th Pacific Leaders Summit in Honiara this week

Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi has reaffirmed Niue’s commitment to the Pacific Resilience Facility during the leaders plenary at the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Summit in the Solomon Islands this week.

The Pacific Resilience Facility was established to strengthen regional preparedness for climate and disaster. Prime Minister Tagelagi’s interventions were release in a press statement from Fale Fono II yesterday.

Prime Minister Tagelagi also supported the vision of Ocean of Peace, an initiative of Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. The Ocean of Peace declaration was formalized by the leaders yesterday.

Niue also supported Australia’s bid to host COP31 in partnership with the Pacific islands. Australia and Turkey are the two countries vying to host COP31 in November 2026. The host of COP31 should be revealed by COP30 which will be held in Brasil in November.

Prime Minister Tagelagi also spoke about advancing the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific, moving from vision to action calling for tangible benefits for Pacific people.

Today, the leaders will travel to Munda in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands for the leaders retreat. This is a closed session where Leaders will have the opportunity to discuss further, issues that matter most in charting the way forward for the region.

Niue’s delegation to the 54th Pacific Forum Leaders Summit include MP for the village of Tamakautoga, Mr Ricky Muaki Makani, Director of Foreign Affairs Mrs Emi Hipa, Government Solicitor Ms Harriet Sionetama and the PM’s Executive Advisor Ms Tagaloa Morrissey.
