In a media release this morning, Minister for Health-Hon. Sonya Talagi says they understand the importance of a robust healthcare workforce to meet the needs of our people, and we want to assure the public that measures are being taken to address any staffing shortages.
This endeavour represents a crucial step forward for Niue’s healthcare infrastructure, as it will result in the development of the first-ever comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines specifically crafted for the Niue Health Department.
Hon Talagi highlighted a recent Lancet Report on global obesity rates that has placed Niue on the Top Ten fattest Countries in the World.
Acting Director of Health Peter Fetaui said that the department currently has 6 ambulance drivers on staff.
He told BCN News that the department management is working with the drivers to improve the ambulance service of the health department.
According to the Department of Health’s recently released Annual Report from 1st July, 2022 to 30th June, 2023, the total number for Medical Evacuation (Medivac) for this period was 8
The Report states, the department started with 12 nurses in the beginning of this fiscal year but dropped to 6 by January, 2023.
The nurses work 7 days a week to cover the hospital’s 3 shifts.
