BCN named in NISCGA application to the High Court while petition is delivered to the Minister

A court application by NISCGA has named BCN as one of three Respondents. Two other parties were named in the application.
The national sports body filed the court application on the 5th of May asking the Court for an order ‘directing BCN to immediately remove all media posts without authorisation of and by NISCGA, the national sports governing body in Niue”.
The Court has not yet decided on the NISCGA application.
BCN Acting General Manager and Editor Esther Pavihi say “BCN will respond to this application in due time to defend freedom of the press and the editorial independence of BCN News to publish the news.
It is not unusual for newsrooms to be named in court applications and civil suits, but this is probably the first time for BCN News. We will treat this matter seriously and respond accordingly”
Meanwhile the Niue Lawn Bowls President Des Hipa last week submitted a petition to remove the current NISCGA executive to the Minister of Sports Hon. Sauni Tongatule and the NISCGA President Maru Talagi.
The petition to remove the current NISCGA executive was signed by sixty-four people from the various sporting codes at a meeting on 6th May, called to discuss the future of sports in Niue.
According to Mr. Des Hipa, the Minister has not yet responded but he also understands the government’s position not to intervene in this matter.
The NISCGA President and Executive Committee were given until today to respond to the petition.
