Niue’s Head of Public Health-Grizelda Mokoia has confirmed to BCN News that they will be running a Health campaign for the National Non- communicable Diseases (NCD) STEPs Survey next month.
The survey will raise awareness about the importance of people getting screened for NCDs.

The WHO STEPwise approach to NCD risk factor surveillance (STEPS) is a simple, standardized method for collecting, analysing and disseminating data on key NCD risk factors in countries.
The STEPS instrument comprises three different levels or “steps” of risk factor assessment: Step 1-questionnaire, Step 2-physical measures and Step 3-biochemical measures.
Training will be conducted for the staff that will be conducting the survey in the first week of March, the last survey was held back in 2011.
The screening for everyone will take place from the ages of 15 years and upwards.
The screening will determine the number of people that have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, there will also be questions on cervical cancer and the access of these services to women, there will also be an oral health component included on the survey.
They are encouraging everyone to come out and be part of this survey on the island.
