The whole island went dark last night at around 7pm, the Power team confirmed the whole island load was too high.
The Team were on the northern side of the island before moving to the southern side, they were monitoring and gradually restoring other areas depending on the loads.
The power was off for about two hours last night. This is the second time the power has gone off in the past few days. Last Saturday night the same thing happened with the power going off for around 10 minutes only.
The Director of Utilities explained that the power interruption was due to a peak in load causing one generator to stop which resulted in the power outage to the northern side of the island.
Questions continue to be asked as to why these power outages happen when Brandon Kulatea is not on the island.
People are also asking questions about the two new generators bought several years ago that have yet to be utilised and they also want to know when the new power station will be commissioned.
BCN News is aware of a report by the parliamentary select committee tasked to look into the power situation on the island, this report was tabled in the Niue Assembly a few months ago, but the report has not been released to the media or the public as to the findings of the committee.
