Talagi says they are looking for ways to provide alternative options in supporting retailers and the private sector.

“It’s been effective to an extent but we still have a lot of work to do in terms of strengthening and providing our retailers with alternative option and also the department of environment working with the private sector to provide alternative shopping bags,” he said.

Talagi said a team from the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) were on the island last month facilitating a session with the Environment Department to assist in organizing the implementation of the project.
