Hanan International Airport Upgrade to be completed by June

He also confirmed that the installation of lights in the air field will also be done as the equipment will arrive from Europe in the next few months. 

After a summer break, Downer contractors are back on the island completing work at the Hanan International Airport site.

Downer’s Project Manager -Craig Smart has advised the members of the public to be cautious as some of their trucks will be driving on the road especially in the airport vicinity. 

“At the moment we are just carrying out some small jobs from last year , but shortly we are going to carry out some work outside of the airport terminal to do some further asphalt work in April, our team will come in April and do 2 weeks of asphalt work.” he said.

Smart also mentions other work will include  the terminal and parking area at the Airport  before they begin to demobilize. 

He also confirmed that the installation of lights in the air field will also be done as the equipment will arrive from Europe in the next few months. 

“We have been waiting for a long long time for the equipment to come and should be coming in the next few months to be in stalled so we expect to finish our work around June.”

Smart says he he cannot confirm when any official opening will be held as that will be for the Niue Government to decide.

The Airport Upgrade Project began in 2021 at a cost $40 million and is expected to be completed in June. 

Meanwhile Downer is looking for workers especially truck drivers and concrete workers who are keen and interested for the next three to four months.
