The French Navy War Ship- Arago made a port of call on the island on Sunday.
Commanding Officer-Charles Tremenbert said they were previously in Pago Pago, American Samoa on their way to Cook Islands transitioning through Niue’s EEZ and had the opportunity to stop over in Alofi.
“It’s a petrol vessel stationed in French Polynesia in Tahiti and we are connecting fisheries surveillance operations through the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ),” he said.
Commander Tremenbert said it was a great opportunity to meet some people on the island and strengthen the links between different agencies, to make information more efficient and for the crew to rest. He met with representatives from the Fisheries department and the Police.
It’s his first time in Niue alongside his 35 crew members that were excited by the opportunity to make the call on the island. The ship departed last night headed for Cook Islands.
