Team Niue at the SPG

The 2023 South Pacific Games kicks off on it’s second week and sharing highlights from Team Niue’s matches at the games.

Our Niue Netball Team went down to Tonga yesterday in their first Pool A match-90 to 17.  Their next game is against the Cook Islands today.

Our Women’s Touch Rugby Team lost in their first Round Robin match yesterday to PNG 10-3, but won against Fiji-6-5, and later went down to Samoa 8-2. 

Our Men’s Touch Rugby Team started their tournament winning all their games on the first day against Norfolk Island 10-8, then scored a big win against Kiribati 12-1, then against Solomon Islands 6-4. 

From the Boxing team,  Boxer -De Niro Pao who is competing in the 64-67 kg bout won his match against Fiji’s Josaia Veiqaravi-4-1

And Keanu Naden will be competing in the 81-86 kg bout will be up against PNG’s- Kua Ganua Mua later today. 

Duken Williams is competing in the 87 kg category, had a bye in the first round so he heads straight to the Quarter Finals against Tahiti tomorrow Wednesday local time in the Solomon Islands. 

Meanwhile New Caledonia leads the medal tally with 62 gold, 40 silver and 38 bronze followed by Australia with 29 gold, 19 silver and 8 bronze.
