Niue Lawn Bowls named team to the Birmingham Games amidst NISCGA suspension
Niue Lawn Bowls have finalized their named team and positions of the players to compete at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Despite the current NISCGA fiasco, Niue Lawn Bowls President Des Hipa says that their main goal is finalizing the team to Birmingham.
In an email yesterday, Mr. Hipa confirmed the following list of names and positions of the players to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
Women’s team:
Single player – Josephine Peyroux
Pairs players – Lynsey Talagi and Josephine Peyroux
Triples Team – Leah Liumaihetau, Catherine Papani and Pilena Motufoou
Fours team – Lynsey Talagi, Leah Liumaihetau, Catherine Papani and Pilena Motufoou
Women’s Team Manager – Loine Pakieto
Men’s team:
Single Player – Stanley Tafatu
Pairs Team – Tukala Tagelagi and Stanley Tafatu
Triples Team – Dalton Tagelagi, Keith Papani and Vehala Funaki
Fours Team – Tukala Tagelagi, Keith Papani, Dalton Tagelagi and Vehala Funaki
Men’s Team Manager – Bill Vakaafi Motufoou
The coach for both the mens and womens team is Norman Mitimeti.
Niue Lawn Bowls President Des Hipa told BCN news that “at this point in time, my priority is naming our Team for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and seeking the views of our Minister for Sports regarding NISCGA’s decision
to train and selection of athletes for both the Commonwealth Games and Pacific Games. As well as the unjust suspension of Niue Lawn bowls from the main sporting body NISCGA.”
This Saturday the Niue Lawn Bowls will be hosting its first ever inter-government department lawn bowls for Queen’s Birthday to start early in the morning with all day rolling, bbq, fun raffles and a good time for all.
