Niue mourns the passing of Former Premier Hon. Frank Fakaotimanava Lui, CNZM

Former Premier Frank Fakaotimanava Lui, CNZM passed away peacefully at his home last night at 7.15pm. He was 85 years old.

He will be laid to rest at his home Omahi Alofi North later today. The funeral service for the late Hon. Fakaotimanava Lui will be held at 1pm today at the Ekalesia Alofi Church.  

Hon. Frank Fakaotimanava Lui was Niue’s second Premier, serving Niue from 1993 until his retirement from politics in 1999. He served nearly thirty years as a member of the Niue Legislative Assembly, the Fono Ekepule representing his village constituency of Alofi North.

Hon. Frank Fakaotimanava Lui was a Minister in the first administration after Niue’s constitution in 1974 under the leadership of the late Sir Robert Richmond Rex.

He was awarded the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 1999 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Former Premier Fakaotimanava Lui is survived by his wife Iris Bella Feilo Fakaotimanava Lui, their children and grandchildren.
