Police held a man in prison for a firearm incident over the weekend
A man was held in prison at the weekend over an incident involving a firearm and was released on bail on Monday awaiting his court appearance.
According to a press release from the Niue Police department, the Police responded to a report of a firearms incident in the village of Tamakautoga on 24th October 2020.
It was reported that two brothers, both of whom were under the influence of alcohol, had met to fight with each other when one of the brothers produced a shotgun.
The shotgun was never fired and there were no injuries to either of the involved parties. The Police were able to establish enough evidence to make an arrest in this case and one of the brothers was arrested and housed at the Niue Prison Farm.
He was released on Monday on Police bail pending his appearance in the Niue High Court.
The firearms were seized and are in evidence at the Niue Police Department.
