Niue backs calls for an immediate resolution to the ongoing conflict between USP’s Vice Chancellor & Pro- Chancellor
Niue is supporting calls for an immediate resolution to the ongoing conflict between the current Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of the South Pacific and the Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the USP Council.
This is part of the recommendations by Niue which will be presented to Cabinet by the Minister for Education and Social Services Sauni Tongatule for endorsement.
Recommendations also include Niue’s statement of its stance towards an immediate resolution of this conflict, Support the recommendations of the forthcoming virtual special USP Council meeting and Maintain USPSA federal body.
On Monday, a special meeting with the new Minister for Education and Social Services Sauni Tongatule was held at the USP Niue campus to discuss and brief him on the ongoing USP Saga.
The meeting was attended by former Education minister Billy Talagi, Director General for Social Services Gaylene Tasmania, and Director Birtha Tongahai, Niue USP Campus Director Seone Lolesio, USPSA Niue President Trevor Tiakia and former USPSA President and regional campus representative Esther Pavihi. A special meeting of the USP Council which was supposed to be held today has been moved to Friday June 19th where all 12 Member countries representatives will be part of. Niue will be represented by the Education and Social Services Minister Sauni Tongatule in the Zoom meeting.
