Speaker Pihigia is given another 2 weeks to respond to Niue High Court order

The Niue High Court has given the Speaker of the Niue Legislative Assembly, the Hon. Togia Pihigia another 2 weeks to provide a response to the Court in relation to a court application filed in June by Opposition and Common Roll Member Terry Coe.

According to the court documents received by BCN, the court’s decision issued on the 4th of July for the Speaker to provide a response was not complied with.

The court has now issued another decision dated 9th August giving the Speaker another two weeks to respond and if he fails to do so, the Court may proceed to make a decision based on the information currently before it.  In June Hon. Terry Coe had filed a court case against the Speaker of the Fono Ekepule, Hon.Togia Pihigia for restricting his right to speak in the Fono.
He said half of his questions and motions had been denied and this was impacting on his ability to do his job as a member of the Opposition. Story by G. Esther Pavihi
