Celebrating Niue’s Australia Awards Scholars

The Australia High Commission hosted a special event yesterday at their residence in Tapeu.
The event was attended by past, current alumni and students of the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships. There are also two graduates this year who studied in Fiji – one in the health sector and the other with the power sector.
Australia High Commissioner Niue Her Excellency (H.E.) Katy Stuart expressed her enthusiasm to celebrate the alumni and students of the Australia Awards scholarships.
“We are incredibly proud of our Australia Awards alumni. We’ve invited our newest graduates, current students and all the alumni who have been studying for many years to help build this wonderful country of Niue.”
“It’s a great celebration really of what they’ve achieved. Some very brave people who have persevered at their studies, left Niue, studied hard and have come back and contributed those skills and knowledge to this beautiful country.”
Despite having no applications for the scholarships this year, Katy encourages those who are interested to apply.
“We haven’t had anyone up-take our scholarships this year…The reason we do Australia Awards in the Pacific is because we think it’s a good opportunity to get people to network in the Pacific and come back to Niue.”
“We have one Masters award that is held in Australia and people can study a variety of areas, generally professional skill priorities for Niue that are identified in conversation with the Government of Niue on what that should be,” says H.E. Katy.
Applications are currently open for the Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships intake for 2025 and will close at the end of March next month.
