Niue Public Service Commission appoints two new commissioners

Two commissioners have been newly appointed for the Niue Public Service Commission – Hon. Fisa Pihigia and Mr Fapoi Akesi.
This was confirmed and announced by Niue Public Service Commission (NPSC) Chairperson Mrs Ida Talagi-Hekesi yesterday during the education day at Scenic Matavai Resort.
According to a government press release issued yesterday, both commissioners commenced their roles on 22 January 2024.
Hon. Pihigia recently returned to Niue after completing his term as the Niue High Commissioner to New Zealand in Wellington. He has a remarkable career spanning over 60 years in various government roles such as the Member of the Niue Assembly for Tuapa and a diplomat.
Mr Akesi is a respected leader and a former Director of Community Affairs who worked for the public service for over 40 years.
His extensive government knowledge, active participation in the employee’s association, and post-retirement roles as an accountant and consultant make him well-positioned to contribute valuable insights and guide the Commission in fulfilling its crucial role in public administration.
The new Commissioners will play a vital role in shaping policies, fostering innovation, and promoting a culture of excellence within the public service.
They will provide leadership skills and expertise to further enhance the Commission’s commitment to good governance and public service excellence.
NPSC Chairperson Mrs Talagi-Hekesi expressed enthusiasm for the new appointments.
“We are delighted to welcome Hon. Fisa Pihigia and Mr Fapoi Akesi to the Commission and Secretariat Office. Their diverse expertise and dedication to public service will undoubtedly strengthen our ability to fulfil our mandate and serve the people of Niue,” says Mrs Talagi-Hekesi.
The Commission extends their gratitude to former Commissioners Mrs Victoria Posimani Kalauni who completed her term in June 2023 and Mr Jerrard Hekau who completed his term at the beginning of January 2024.
NPSC acknowledged their valuable contributions and looks forward to working collaboratively with the new Commissioners to address the evolving needs and challenges facing the public service.
