First week of games done and dusted for Team Niue at World Bowls Championships 2023
The World Bowls Championships took off earlier this week at Gold Coast in Australia where Niues lawn bowls team is currently competing.
The tournament began earlier this week and after three days of tough competition, Team Niue concluded their games yesterday.
Despite not making the final series of the tournament for this week, they were successful in securing wins each of the three days that they competed in their categories.
The opening ceremony for the tournament took place on Monday this week. Tuesday began the first of three days for matches which concluded yesterday.
For the womens singles, Joy Peyroux won three out of her nine games and placed seventh in her section.
For the womens fours, first time player in the international stage Lynsey Talagi, Chris Hipa, Catherine Papani and Pilena Motufoou won one out of seven of their games placing sixth on their ladder.
For the mens pairs, Keith Papani and Greg Funaki placed ninth in their section, where they won two out of nine of their matches.
In the mens triples, which also include first time player in the international stage Tifaga Tupuiliu, 15 year old TK Tagelagi, and Stanley Tafatu, the team placed eighth and last. Only winning one of their seven games.
Despite not making any of their final series, the team still have one more week next week to give it their all at the World Bowls Championships.
