News in brief: C-130 Hercules, Toi Showday, Vaiea Ekalesia church
C-130 Hercules open viewing for the public
The C-130 Hercules aircraft, which arrived on the island on Monday, was opened for viewing to the general public from midday to 1:30PM on Tuesday.
An opportunity that could not be missed saw locals and children who gathered at the Hannan International Airport with excitement to witness and take in the rare experience of the Hercules aircraft.
NZ High Commissioner Helen Tunnah told BCN News that it was nice to see the Niue connection through the Hercules.
“We’d like to thank the New Zealand Air Force and Niue for allowing a family day for everyone to see the Hercules. It was fun to see the kids enjoying themselves.”
“We’re always grateful for the support for Niue that the C-130 Hercules can provide, whether it is for cyclone responses, hospital transfers or other emergencies, and it’s always a comfort to know the Air Force is on hand,” says NZ High Commissioner Tunnah.
Toi Village Showday
The small village of Toi hosted its annual village showday last Saturday. Centred at the village community hall, locals and tourists were seen at the village supporting Toi’s efforts for the day.
A variety of food was sold, agricultural produce and the beautiful arts and handcrafts of the village women were well displayed in the community hall.
Opening ceremony of refurbished Vaiea Ekalesia church building
Also last Saturday was the opening of the renewed Vaiea Ekalesia church building.
The attendance of locals, villagers, Ekalesia church leaders and government officials were present for the opening formal ceremony.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi, Minister of Social Services Hon. Sauni Tongatule and Matua Utu of Vaiea officially opened the new building.
