Premier to attend several overseas meetings returning in October

Premier Dalton Tagelagi departed the island yesterday and he will be away for four weeks attending several high level meetings, starting with the Pacific Conference of Leaders meeting in Hawaii, a meeting that is held normally every 5 years. 

In his absence Minister of Social Services Hon. Sauni Tongatule will be Acting Premier. 

Premier Tagelagi was on News of the Week on Friday last week and said that the main item on the agenda for this Pacific conference of leaders will be on geo-political issues in the region as well as climate change. 

Premier will then head to Brisbane in Australia for another regional meeting on climate change and disaster reduction where there will also be an expo. A group from the Niue Girls brigade is expected to be at this expo to display their projects over the past two years on disaster reduction. 

Premier Tagelagi will also take up the opportunity to speak to the Niuean community in Brisbane and Sydney to discuss opportunities to strengthen the relationship between the Niueans living abroad and Niue.

He also told News of the Week last Friday that sports opportunities is also something he will be discussing with Niueans in Australia. 

Also on the premier’s meetings schedule for the next four weeks is the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Manila in the Philippines. 

He will be attending this meeting in his capacity as the chair of the Pacific chapter of the members of the Asian Development Bank. 

Premier will be back on the island in the first week of October.
