Returning local residents volunteer to self-isolate for the first 3 days
Some of the returning local residents are being extra cautious and volunteering to self-isolate for the first three days after arrival on the island.
CEO of Chamber of Commerce and owner for RockBak Bakery Catherine Papani arrived on yesterday’s flight and shared how she and her family prepared to isolate themselves until Day 1 and Day 3 tests continued to show negative results.
“The decision was simple really to just help mitigate the chances of COVID in the community and also it’s a situation that we have to learn to live in the new norm. On arrival we didn’t get to kiss and hug…it was masked hello’s and elbow greets. Spraying and sanitising and masking is our norm until Day 3 tests are done.”
“It’s just being responsible…no one wants to get COVID or be the one to share it. Health and safety of all is prioritised over the economics of business,” says Catherine.
Catherine says that the bakery will continue to provide for shops but the canteen will not be opened until Friday after Day 3 tests are cleared.
Premier Dalton Tagelagi and his family were in self-isolation for the past week due to one of his daughters who had tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving on the first QFT flight last week.
Premier told BCN News that his family had a Covid-19 household plan they followed while they were isolating where every morning at 11am they would take their RAT test.
Premier Tagelagi is now cleared after Day 7 testing was held yesterday. He will depart on the Hercules plane today on official travel.
The total number of active cases in isolation remains at 10. The 71 passengers from yesterday’s flight would have completed their day 1 tests today.
The close contacts from the first five active cases identified last week will also be tested today.

The government announced last week that daily Covid-19 updates will be made on the official website at 6pm each day.
