Thailand’s Socialgiver donates COVID respirators

An award-winning social enterprise based in Thailand known as Socialgiver donated 100 professional elastomeric respirators for frontline and health workers, and 100,000 consumer-grade KF94-type respirators (TF98) for all Niue residents, according to a government press release issued yesterday. 

According to the press release, the Socialgiver’s Arch Wongchindawest and Poomnuree Supachanya say they hope that by donating these respirators to Niue that the people “may understand how to protect themselves and their communities from airborne transmission by availability and correct use of the respirators, enabling Niue to stay COVID-free.”

In his statement, Premier Hon. Dalton Tagelagi says Niue is grateful “for this well timed and practical means of ensuring all Niue’s residents, 98% of whom are double vaccinated, also have an extra layer of protection from COVID including the more contagious Omicron variant.”

“Social giver’s donation will make a difference to the health and wellbeing of the people of Niue as we continue to do everything we can to keep our people safe,” says the Premier. 

The P100 respirators for health and frontline workers have already arrived on the island while the TF98 respirators are expected to arrive on the next flight. 

Premier Hon. Dalton Tagelagi says that “Niue’s preparedness to manage and prevent any transmission or outbreak of COVID is progressing well. The donation of over 100,000 consumer-grade KF94-type respirators for every member of the public to keep at home will be another big part of our successful rollout of our COVID vaccination programme.”

This includes the near completion of the new COVID units at Niue foou hospital and the paediatric vaccinations rollout for children aged 5 to 11 years old which began on February 14th this year.
