Niue’s first positive covid case in MIQ remains the only case after today’s tests
Premier Hon. Dalton Tagelagi tonight has confirmed that the single case of Covid-19 detected on Tuesday remains the only positive case in MIQ after today’s testing. There are no new cases in MIQ or the frontliners in isolation.
All other passengers on the flight with the positive case are close contacts all returned negative results.
The frontline workers also returned negative results.
In his address, Premier Tagelagi said that it is understandable that people are anxious at this time, but he is calling for calm and understanding.
According to Health officials, the frontline staff are in isolation for seven days and will be retested before they are released on Monday next week.
The eleven frontliners are not considered close contacts but the health authorities decided that since this was Niue’s first positive covid 19, it was best as an extra precaution and to assure the public it was decided that these frontline staff be in isolation.
