Three young Niue lifters take part in the 2020 Oceania Weightlifting Federation Online Cup
In these travel restrictive times, even weightlifting competitions are having to adapt to holding their competitions online. Last Friday the 2020 Oceania Weightlifting Federation Online Cup was held over two days. Each of the countries set up their competitions via zoom. Niue was set up at the Alofi North village Hall.
This is online competition saw lifters from twelve countries Australia, Samoa, NZ, PNG, Fiji, Northern Marianas, Niue, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Solomons, Nauru and Tonga compete for cash prizes. The winning lifters receiving AUD4,000 for both the men and women competition.
President of Weightlifting Niue, Narita Viliamu Tahega, NCSS told BCN News that Niue’s lifters didn’t place in the top five but they did very well.
Out of a total of 22 female lifters fifteen year old Krysalyn Sipeni (pictured) placed 15th lifting a total of 150 and fourteen year old Ramsi Edwards placed 18th with a total of 135.
Krysalyn Sipeni and Moses Mautama the Niue based lifters, took part in the online competition from Niue, while Ramsi Edwards took part from Auckland.
The winner of the women’s’ competitions, with the first and second place going to two Australian lifters, Eileen Cikamatana and Kiana Elliott. Two Samoan lifters, Leotina Sive Petelo took out third with Iuniarra Sipaia in fourth place and PNG lifter Loa Dika Toua making up the top 5.
In the mens competition, Niuean lifter Moses Mautama placed 15th in a total competition pool of 20 lifters.
The competition was taken out by two Samoan lifters Sanele Mao in first and Don Opeloge in second. Third place went to David Andrew Liti of New Zealand. Fourth place went to PNG lifter Baru and in fifth place is Nauruan lifter Ezekiel Moses.
