Edwards wins bronze at the NZ National Olympics Weightlifting competitions and a new NZ under 15’s record.

After winning at the national secondary school competitions in September, 14-year-old Ramsi Edwards (pic second from right) has done it again winning the bronze medal and set the new NZ under 15’s record at the New Zealand National Olympics Weightlifting Competitions held in Tauranga over the weekend.

She competed in the 87+ category as a junior lifter. According to her mother, Carol Edwards who watched the competition on Youtube said commentators called Ramsi, the baby of the category as she was the youngest.

Mrs Edwards says that the goal for Ramsi now is aiming to compete at the 2022 commonwealth games.

Carol told us that it has been tough not being able to be with her daughter during these big competitions, especially for the last two major competitions. However, she is comforted by the fact that Ramsi’s Dad Tony is with her and their strong support group of family and friends.

Carol says that Ramsi is lucky to have a very good training and support team with her club Papatoetoe Olympic Weightlifting Club in Auckland.

Ramsi Edwards has two more competitions before the end of the year including an online tournament with lifters here in Niue.

Even though she is living in NZ at the moment, she is still lifting for Niue. The online tournament will see her lifting with the Niue based lifters including her friend 15 year old Krisalyn Sipeni.
