O’love Jacobsen aims to continue as Niue’s longest serving female MP
Hon. O’love Jacobsen is a veteran politician and the longest serving female MP.
She first entered politics in a Common Roll bi-election in 1988. She became a Cabinet Minister in the Frank Lui Government from 1993 until 1993, serving as Minister of Health, Health and Community Affairs.
After 1999 until 2008, she was a member of the opposition. Until 2008 when she was again made a member of the Cabinet of the Toke Talagi Government from 2008 until 2011, making her the first woman to sit in two different Cabinet.
From 2011 until 2017 she took a break from Parliament to take up a diplomatic role as Niue High Commissioner to Wellington. During her tenure as High Commissioner to Wellington, she was appointed the prestigious Dean of the Diplomatic Corp
She returned to Niue Assembly at the last 2017 elections leading the common roll members.
