Engineers work on BCN’s infrastructure
A group of engineers from China who won the Chinese government contracted to maintain the towers, antennae and equipment replacements for the Broadcasting Corporation of Niue have been on the island for five weeks.
A second team of engineers were supposed to arrive this month, but due to all the travel restrictions on travel from China, this has been suspended until later in the year.
The team of six engineers have been working on repairing and replacing antennae at the BCN’s 76 meters high broadcasting tower at Sekena.
As a key piece of infrastructure on the island, this team is responsible for it’s maintenance. All maintenance costs for this work have been covered by Chinese Aid since 2005.
According to the BCN GM Trevor Tiakia, talks are being held to extend the contract for another five years.
The engineers will be leaving next week.
