Gardasil 9 now added to Niue’s vaccination schedule
The Health department has now added one more vaccine to Niue’s vaccination schedule.
Gardasil 9 vaccine targets the types of HPV responsible for around 90 percent of cervical and other HPV-related cancers, and 90 percent genital warts.
According to New Zealand’s Ministry of Health, clinical trials show it is highly effective in preventing these types of HPV in young people who have not previously been exposed to them.
There are two doses, the first one was rolled out on Friday November 22nd at the high school for years 8 and 9, for both girls and boys. The second dose will be in six months’ time.
