Manatua cable to be commissioned in June 2020
The manatua cable is expected to be commissioned next year in June.
Telecom Niue Spokesperson Roy Lee Pavihi said that work will begin on the landing station for the manatua cable after the arrival of the landing station on the 14th of this month.
“We are right through with our project at the moment. If you’ve been up to the landing site up at Sekena Makefu you’ll see the dredging across the reef is halfway through and dredge works from the road up to the actual landing site on top of the hill is completed. We are currently waiting on the 14th of November for the cable landing station to arrive and looking at the 27th of November for the cable ship to land and start pulling the cable up to the site. We’re looking at mid of December for all the installations to be completed on site and early January to February we’ll be looking at testing the cable and just all the testing results will depend on when we’ll actually go LIVE which we are forecasting June 2020.”
On the issue of cost Telecom Niue says this is still under negotiations with relevant parties involved.
They also would like to remind the public to be careful when driving through the landing site at Sekena in Makefu.
The Manatua Cable will provide internet connections from Apia, Samoa to Toahotu, Tahiti, with branching units for landings to Niue; Aitutaki, Rarotonga and Bora Bora.
