15 year old Kaia Davis wins bronze for Niue in weightlifting
15 year old Kaia Davis has won bronze for Niue in weightlifting bringing Niue’s medal tally to 3.
Niue has attained 1 silver and 2 bronze medals to date with two achieved by the Niue Lawn Bowls two days ago.
Davis achieved personal bests yesterday in the snatch 80kgs in the 72kgs category also achieving a personal best lift in the clean and jerk with 105kgs.
Kaias support team, including his coach Narita Tahega, manager Carol Edwards and his proud mum and deputy coach, body builder Isabella Davis from the village of Mutalau said that they are very proud of Kaia’s achievement.
According to his mother, he started lifting since he was 11 years of age. The medals ceremony took place yesterday afternoon taking Niue’s medals tally after day 5 of the Pacific Games to 1 Silver and 2 bronze.
Youngest members of Team Niue, Kryslyn Sipeni came in 6th place while Ramsi Edwards who lifted her personal best yesterday came in 4th place.
Golf entered their second round at Fagalii with both men’s and women’s teams playing an improved game picking up from the high scores on their first day.
Lawn bowls kick started their first round of the second competition with the teams splitting to form the men’s fours and singles and the women’s pairs and triples.
Hon Dalton Tagelagi lost both his games competing in the men’s singles against Tokelau and Cook Islands. For the fours, Norman Mitimeti, Stan Tafatu, Mark Blumsky and Hala Funaki won their first game against Norfolk but lost their second to Cook Islands and Fiji.
In what was a very tight game, Fiji came through in the end winning 13-12 over Niue. The women’s triples had a bye earlier on with their first game at 12pm winning to Norfolk but going down to Tokelau. They lost to Tokelau in their second game which had players with more than 10 years of experience.
The women’s pairs Pilena Motufoou and Lia Liumaihetau won their first game versus Fiji but lost against Samoa and Norfolk.
