Niue’s ADB membership does not mean Government will rush to borrow funds : Premier
Premier Sir Toke Talagi says the fact that Niue is now a member of the Asian Development Bank which was confirmed by law in the assembly does not mean Government will rush to borrow funds.
Premier Sir Toke Talagi says the fact that Niue is now a member of the Asian Development Bank which was confirmed by law in the assembly does not mean Government will rush to borrow funds.
The Premier made the comment following the ADB’s approval of Niue as an official member,
Sir Talagi states he is very pleased that finally the Niuean government has achieved this historical milestone for the people of Niue and that he is a very proud Premier to be part of this.
He says it is government’s belief which formed the basis of their discussions with the ADB board of governors that government needs technical and projects advise so that they can then look to borrow if they need to.
ADB also has many technical experts who can assist.
The Premier stated Niue is small but requirements and management of Niue’s resources whether finance economy, social services and the Tāoga is important.
