Joshua Poumale undertakes the Youth Tournaments
15-year-old Joshua Buckner Poumale, a young and active player for the Niue Toa Motu Rugby League, was selected to play in the Shaun Johnson Shield Under-16s Auckland Rugby League Youth Tournament currently being held in New Zealand.
The tournament consists of six teams with four teams from Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato.
Last week, Joshua played his first game for Team Auckland Blue against Auckland White, starting at fullback going down 32-28.
According to Coach Dave Ulukita who left Niue with Joshua last month says that “this has been a huge opportunity for Joshua after gaining representative honours playing in the Niue team at last year’s U15s PYC.”
“Joshua is paving the way for our local youth here in Niue considering Rugby League is still new to the Island and also Joshua who is still in his first year of playing Rugby League.”
Joshua has three more games in Auckland before returning back to Niue for his education.
For more information on Joshua’s game day timetable, follow the Niue Rugby League Toa Motu Facebook Page.
Once the Shaun Johnson Shield has concluded they will select a representative team ‘the best of the best’ from the six teams competing to travel overseas.
Also, the Niue Toa Motu Rugby League will be running a Rugby League Academy Camp for Niue High School boys aged 13 to 18 years old.
Their goal is to share an insight into the core fundamentals of Rugby League and develop the Niue youth who are keen and interested to play the sport.
