Tourists in awe of Niue’s pristine environment

Alofi was a hype of activity as tourists from the Silver Cloud cruise ship disembarked last Thursday at the capital.

BCN News spoke with US Tourist-Eric Woodson who is on the cruise to celebrate his 60th birthday with his family, traveling for the first time to this side of the world has been an amazing experience. 

He said he loved the laid back nature of our island with the friendly people and he hopes that we keep our natural environment looking as pristine as it is now.

Similar sentiments were shared by Jim and Jan Fayle of California in the United States. They both admired the pristine waters of Niue and were out snorkeling. Its everyones first time on the island.

“We snorkeled here this morning and we had a fabulous time and its the best place we have been so far, the water is so clear and beautiful,” Jim added.

For Yvonne Conn of Australia who was with her husband, their activities included a visit to the Museum and then a walk around the commercial center. She said the people have been very welcoming and was impressed with the locals.

“We started in South America then to the coast of Chile and now we cruising the Pacific islands,” Conn said.

Local vendors and shops were busier than usual throughout the day as tourist visited their shops and tents.

The cruise ship had about 200 passengers on board from around the world from as far as Germany and China. The ship departed on Thursday afternoon headed for Tonga.
