Students commemorate international Chinese language day

And it was a cultural awareness class with a difference when the Year 5 and 6 students of Niue primary school had a Chinese language session with local Chinese resident-Jun Li or known to many on the island as Mr Lee.

For the first time the class is commemorating “International Chinese Language Day” which is globally celebrated on April 20th -a day dedicated to celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese language and promoting multilingualism.

Education Director-Natasha Tohovaka encouraged the students to learn a new language and culture. Also sharing her experience when she visited China in 2010.

Also present was Education Minister-Hon. Sonya Talagi who hopes bigger and better things next year to mark the special day.

Class teacher-Jessica Pavihi thanked Mr Lee for the initiative as students actively engaged as they learned to translate daily words like hello, thank you,and Goodbye to Chinese. Students also won educational prizes during the Question and Answer session.
