Niue’s tropical cyclone season ends

Director of the Niue Met Service-Rossy Mitiepo says that while the cyclone season has ended, the possibility of cyclones forming outside the season is rare but not impossible

The Director of the Niue Met service Mrs Rossy Mitiepo says that while the cyclone season has ended, the possibility of cyclones forming outside the season is rare but not impossible.

Niue’s Official Tropical Cyclone Season for 2024/2025 ended on 30th April, 2025.

According to the Director, this season observed only 4 systems that formed into a Tropical cyclone. None of the four cyclones developed into a Category 3 cyclone or higher.

One Tropical Cyclone (TC Pita) was closest to Niue and tracked 30 km close to the island from the 9th to the 10th of January this year.

The tropical cyclone season for the Pacific started on the 01st November 2024 and ended on the 30th April 2025.

Rossy Mitiepo and the team at the Niue Met service would like to thank everyone for your cooperation during the cyclone season and ask that we all remain vigilant even outside of the Tropical Cyclone Season.
